 85.2 Ignorant Conceitedness

Question:

Is there anything positive about the one who neither knows nor listens to others?           

Answer:

The fool who neither knows nor listens to the advice of

others is a plague till he dies.                                                 (Couplet – 848)

ஏவவும் செய்கலான் தான்தேறான் அவ்வுயிர்

போஒம் அளவுமோர் நோய்.                       (குறள் – 848)

 

Explanation:

            If a person does not know something and does not listen to others’ advice, he will make poor decisions in life. His poor decisions will affect him and others. He is a menace to himself and others. There is nothing positive about him. That is why Valluvar remarks in Couplet 848 that an individual who neither listens nor heeds the advice of others is like a disease till his death.
