ஊதியம்
போக விடல். (குறள் – 831)
Explanation:
Some people willfully make the wrong decisions
and suffer the consequences. There are many examples of very successful people
foolishly making bad decisions, for example. Tiger Woods, the phenomenally
successful golfer, was involved in many sex scandals. He had a beautiful wife, a
loving family, and millions of admirers. He lost all that. His downfall was
purely due to his own indiscretion. Bill Clinton, the 42nd President
of the USA, was involved in a sexual scandal and was impeached by the US of
House of Representatives, and the American Bar Association debarred him from practicing
law. His downfall was due to his own foolishness. Richard Nixon, the 38th
President of the USA, was a coconspirator in the break-in into the opposite
party’s Election Headquarters. He was leading in the polls and was sure to be
reelected. Burt he foolishly made the wrong decision to commit a crime, and he
had to resign from his position. Too often, we see reports of very successful
artists like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, and others getting addicted to
narcotics and dying. These days, thousands of young adults die each year from an
overdose of drugs like Fentanyl. All these examples affirm what Valluvar says
in Couplet 831.
