 92.3 Prostitutes

Question:

                Who are those who do not seek pleasure from prostitutes?

Answer:               

Men of wisdom who have studied righteousness will never seek mean pleasures

from prostitutes who sell their bodies for gain.                                                     (Couplet – 914)

Men of deep study with innate intelligence will not seek the mean pleasures from

prostitutes whose charm is common to all.                                                             (Couplet – 915)

Those who care for their own welfare will not indulge in the mean pleasures of

prostitutes who rejoice in their base attractions and sell them for money.              (Couplet – 916)

 

 பொருட்பொருளார் புன்னலந் தோயார் அருட்பொருள்

ஆயும் அறிவி னவர்.                                                                                        (குறள் – 914)

பொதுநலத்தார் புன்னலம் தோயார் மதிநலத்தின்

மாண்ட அறிவி னவர்.                                                                                    (குறள் – 915)

தந்நலம் பாரிப்பார் தோயார் தகைசெருக்கிப்

புன்னலம் பாரிப்பார் தோள்.                                                                      (குறள் – 916)

 

 

Explanation:

                The central theme in the above-mentioned three Couplets is that the pleasure that one can obtain from a prostitute is despicable and intelligent men who value virtue, honor, and welfare will not seek those pleasures.
